Here are my thoughts on smugmug. I really like smugmug. They have great customer service, although that they don't do the phone service what they do works. They use email and you get a response with in an hour. They are a real nice small group of people that really care. Photo Boutique Idea

So today I went to Boutique that was selling halloween crafts and furniture and other stuff people had made. Then I had this Idea that I could have a photo boutique, gallery, or whatever you want to call it, where some photographers could get together and sell some fine art and landscapes prints. Though I don't really have an idea of how to organize it. So I wonder if people would be interested in this sort of dealio. Please comment your thoughts on this Idea.

Tricks on to get nice fall colors.

Here is an example of some fall colors that I took in sundance a couple weeks ago.

On the one in the left the colors dont seem to pop as much. But in the one in the right they are really nice. To make the colors pop you need to use an editing sofware like Photoshop, Lightroom, iPhoto, or any other photo editing software. Most photo software even the not so powerful programs have a Saturation adjustment. To give it more color we want to add more saturation. Add until you get what you like.

Something else to do is use something to create contrast. In this example I shot a white flower in front of the nice red and oranges.

Feel free to adjust and move anything around to get a creative shot. My friend placed this leaf on the bridge and look what awesome shot I got.

Another thing to do is pay attention to your surroundings. As we were walking about I saw this awesome stream and had to caught a shot of it.

Fall is a great time to get a great shots. I hope you have a lot of fun butting these tips in to practice.

We first started up in Vivian Park. The colors there were really nice.

After chilling in Vivian Park we shot some stuff at some train tracks near by.

TorBang Photography Portrait Session Tips

Getting ready for your photo session:

Remember that planning goes a long way toward making your portrait session successful. The portrait is a collaboration between the photographer and the subject. Please take a few moments to look over the following suggestions to see how you may participate in the planning of your successful portrait. Feel free to discuss any questions or ideas you may have in advance of the session.

Try to get a good night’s sleep before the session and drink lots of water. Both will reduce puffy eyes.

Choose a color theme that simplifies the look of your portrait. Too many busy patterns and colors are especially distracting. Colors should be harmonious. Coordinate the clothing for all subjects in a group portrait so that one person will not dominate the scene. Color coordination lends harmony to the portrait.

Dark clothing tends to minimize body size, and light tones tend to emphasize body size. Most people look best in darker colors. Choosing solid colors is usually flattering to everyone. A busy pattern is distracting.

Shoes and socks are often overlooked as a significant aspect of portrait clothing. They should compliment, not contrast. Carefully consider your apparel from head to toe as a variety of full length and close up poses may be taken.

Dress for Small Children

While cute, play clothes detract from your professionally made portrait. Stick with the basic guidelines for adults.

Dress for Outdoor Portraits

As a background, the outdoors is very busy. It is important to choose only one or two theme colors. While blues are excellent all year, white, ivory, khaki and salmon are great against lush green foliage. Burgundy, brown, tan and gray are nice late in the season. Avoid all greens, as they clash with Mother Nature. The simplicity of two colors help separate the subject from the scenery. Busy backgrounds and busy clothes result in hard to find faces. Jeans and sweaters always look good outdoors. Please don’t wear any large broad-rim hats that might cast a shadow over the eyes.

Highschool Senior Portraits

Things you might want to bring, if you participate in an extra curricular activity bring something to show it off, for example if you place a sport bring your uniform, if you have accomplished something that you want to show off bring it, also any thing else that you would like to show off in your photos.

Remember:

1) Simplicity is the best policy.

2) Avoid busy patterns, prints and bright colors.

3) Wear solid colors.

4) Avoid wearing yellow or green as they can adversely affect skin color.

5) Shoes and socks should match the rest of the outfit.

6) Women should not wear any prominent jewelry. Large earrings are especially distracting.

7) Women should apply standard makeup with a light foundation. Don’t overdo it.

8) Guys remember that a fresh shave is better than a 5’Oclock shadow.

9) Now is not the time to experiment with a new hairstyle. Keep it simple.

10) If you wear eyeglasses, consider asking your eye doctor for a pair of frames without lenses. This will cut down the glare that eyeglasses can cause if flash is used.

11) Everyone should avoid wearing short pants. Long pants are always most flattering in a portrait.

12) Guys make sure your collar is freshly pressed and wrinkle free.

13) Turtlenecks are always flattering.

14) When it doubt, stick with the classic styles. They will always look good.

When you follow these tips and coordinate your dress from head to toe, you are well on your way to a Perfect Portrait!

Well I am getting these crazy migraines like all the time and you know it is terribly annoying. So the other day I went to go visit the neurologist so he might find a way to treat my terrible pains. We go to the office and get checked in and all, then the doctors PA comes in and does most of the exam and stuff. I mean how grand would that be to just have some guy does most of the work for you and reap in all of the money. Well after PA is done taking to us the doc whose name is Mohammad Taher I guess he is some Arab guy or some thing comes in and says you take this, this and this and we see you in three weeks. It was some amazing times. Oh and also I will get a CT scan on monday.

The Moab Journey

On Memorial weekend some of my friends and I made a journey to Moab, UT. We started planning the trip on Wednesday. Justin Hatch, Justin Myers, Jason, and I had planned on going on the trip. On Thursday we went to Costco to buy the food. Justin H paid for most of it so that was pretty sweet. We left for Moab around 2:00 on Friday, for some reason Justin H was unable to go so we had an abundant amount of food.

We got to Moab about 6:00 on Friday. We drove around town looking for campsites and did not really wish to camp in RV campgrounds. We then made the decision to go to Arches to see if there were any spots left in the park’s campsite. But there were no spots left, so at the visitor’s center they told us what our options were.

As we left the town to go back to the park I saw this great bridge crossing the Colorado River. So I decided that I would take some pictures there. Here they are.

One of the options was to go up near the river and camp at some BLM campsites. We soon left the park then traveled up the road near the river to see our options. We slowly drove by the campsites seeing what was available. After driving up the road we soon found that the campsites were packed. What were we to expect it was Memorial Weekend? We returned to the second campsite were there was one that was empty but had been reserved for the weekend. So we talked to the camp host, who was this great old guy from Texas, he said he thought that they were probably not coming back but if they did we would have to move or share it with them or something.

It was about 7:30 when we started to set up camp. We had forgot a few things so Jason went back to town to buy the stuff. As he was going back Justin M started prepping the food to make fajitas and I made a cobbler. We did not have dinner until about 9:00. A fire came around soon after than. It was not a very large and grand fire, it was actually quite a lame sauce fire, it sure did not help that we had forgot a hatchet. When it got later I decided to take some long exposures but they did not turn out so grand.

We woke up at about 7:30 the next morning. I cooked breakfast burritos they were ultra tasty.

Well I am really tired right now I am just going to post some more pics and then Ill write more later.

Bridals at Thanksgiving Point

I took these Bridals with my friend ken at Thanksgiving Point. Ken was the main photographer and I was assisting him, but I still got some sweet pics. We had a super great time. Turkey Point as I like to call it has lots of different shooting opportunities. Great place to shoot.

Salt Lake Temple Visit

Yesterday we made the journey to the Salt Lake temple. It was my second time visiting it. We planned on leaving at 6:30 from Alberson's in Lehi but who ever leaves on time anyway. So it is about 6:25 when the girls end up picking me up, so go figure. Well we start to leave and I call George to tell him that we are leaving Eagle Mountain and will be there some time soon. After a few minutes we arrive at Alberson's after George calling us a few times to see when we are going to get there. As soon as we arrive George goes in to this eyeglasses place and tells us that he will be a few minutes and all he is really doing is flirting with some girl in the store. While he is in there in the store Suzi is trying to find something to cover her seat with something because I kid spilled root beer all over it. So it comes time for George to come in to the car and he just starts moving all this stuff and than he decides that it we should go in his car instead.

We arrive at the Trax Station about 7:30 and started to ride the train to Temple Square. We had some totally awesome times on the Trax.

We got to temple square at about 8:00 or so. There was a lot of construction going on so the regular baptistery entrance was closed so we went in the big regular entrance for the whole temple and had to go down some long tunnels but we finally found our way in. We had some great experiences in the temple. We were the last group and ended up getting out of the temple around 9:20 so no temple cheesecake for George because the cafeteria was closed. We walked around the temple grounds a little while and took some awesome pictures.

After playing around on Temple Square for a while we decided that it was time to get some food. So we jumped back on the train to go down to the gateway. First we went to the food court but of course it was close because it was 10:00. We walked around some more and came across an Applebees that was open. Michelle and I decided that we were not very hungry so we only ordered dessert. I ordered this thing called the Mile High Ice Cream Pie it is just super good. Michelle ordered some dessert shot thing, George some pasta, and Suzy ordered some wrap or something. We read on a paper on the table that if a manager does not come by to visit your table that you get a $10 off your next meal, so we was sure that he wasn’t going to come by but then all the sudden about before we were to leave he shows up oh how depressing.

After our grand fun times at Applebees we caught our train home. When we got to the sandy stop I was the only one to get off. The others were just standing there for a while. They were making faces at me. I went to press the button to let me in but it was not working. They same for their side. I guess they were locked in. The Operator lady had to come open the doors for them. But overall we had some great times.

Wyoming Trip Part 2

This is the second half of my week in Wyoming. On Wednesday night we went and saw Xmen origins Wolverine. I thought it was a good movie. It was pretty action packed. The acting was great. All around it was a great movie. Thursday my grandpa decided that we would get some manure for his garden. On the other side of town there is this old guy that he knows who used to have horses but i guess does not anymore but still has lots of manure left. So we loaded this really small trailer on the back of the Tundra, which looked totally ridiculous. After we loaded it in the trailer we dumped it in the garden. Grandpa had a really hard time backing into the garden but we got her done. The garden looked pretty barren until we spread the stuff around. The spreading of the manure was pretty laboring. Throw that shovel full throw it again, very laboring. That took up most of our day. Before dinner Grandma and I went to the bookstore of the UW to get a Nalgene. I had been looking all week for a Pokes Nalgene but couldn’t find one anywhere, but I was able to find one at the bookstore. Later that night Kristi came over and we played some games and made some smoothies with a thing called the bullet.

On Friday grandpa and I went fishing again. We first went to the river but after fishing it for an hour we caught nothing, so we left and went to a lake. At the lake we did not catch anything either. When we got back to the house I played a game called chicken foot with grams and gramps. Of course I lost the game but oh well I guess I will work on those skills. Janine came home then we ate some pizza. Grandma says that anything that is not Hawaiian pizza is too spicy so we had one of those and a meat lovers. Janine and I then went to Kristi’s house to play some b-ball with Tyler Kristi’s nephew.

Wyoming Trip

Last week my kid sister graduated for UVU with her Associates. My grandparents had deiced to come watch their first grandchild graduate. So my parents just had a great thought that I should go home with them back to Laramie. So I packed my bags and toke the 7 hour journey to Laramie. We got to Laramie Sunday afternoon. Sunday evening I went to my Aunt Janine's friend house and we watch Bride Wars. It is an Interesting film. Pretty funny. On Monday I went to Cheyenne to visit my Aunt Roberta and the rest of the Glenns. I visited the Sierra Trading Post for the first time and got some great deals on some clothes. I was able to buy a Columbia shirt and pants for $30. I then stayed the night at Tom and Bonnie's house, then the next morning Roberta cut my hair. Soon after getting my hair cut Grandma and Grandpa came to pick me up in Cheyenne. Tuesday Evening I went with Janine and Kristie to Williams house for a Cinco De Mayo "Party". This Party consisted of Janine, Kristie, William and I hanging out at his house. We ate some homemade Goucamule and some quesdillas, they were some good eats. We then played some weird game called mormon bridge. All and all there were some good times to be had. On Wednesday Grandps and I went fishing to the Laramie River. There we cought some fish.

Intro to Torsten {Utah Wedding Photographer}

My name is Torsten Bangerter. I started my photography career back in 2004. I began that journey with a Canon Powershot A300 this was my very first camera. It wasn't too bad. It cost me a whopping $130 if I remember right. It was only 3.2 Megapixels. But it treated me well. I used that camera for 3 years then I left it on a bus never to be seen again. The next camera that I bought was a Canon Powershot G2. This was a pretty totally awesome camera. It gave me a lot more control than the A300. Great camera. After that I went into the big leagues. I got my first digital SLR the good old digital rebel. The only lens I had was 70-210. It was pretty sad. But soon along came summer and I was shooting a lot of pics at scout camp and I realized I needed some thing much wider. I soon then picked up a Tamoron 28-70 which helped me a lot. Well After about a year I deiced it was about time to get something newer. I sold my rebel and got a 1D Mark II. This is what I shoot with today.
